Assignment 8.1: Autonomy, creativity and drive.
Many teachers are convinced to try new things in technology and education despite them not really wanting to attempt these different things. In the education setting we are often told to do a lot of things because we need to.
As a technology leader, one can use the lessons from Daniel Pink to allow teachers more Autonomy and intrinsic drive to help teacher create their own goals and objectives within technology leading.
But working with teachers, guiding their drive and desires teachers can create more personalized and more meaningful teaching.
For example, giving teachers a multitude of options and letting them flourish can really influence them to integrate technology, not because they have to but because they know the way it can strengthen their teaching and their students learning.
One example is recently at a teacher leadership conference I was introduced to Adobe Spark and all of the different things it can help aid in. I thought this was interesting but kept it in my mental teacher tool box. Now I am in a writing unite with students and I will be using Adobe Spark to help publish my students writing and allow them to read and collaborate on their writing.
If I had been told that I had to use adobe spark because the district I work for paid for it, I probably would be at a loss on how to use it at the time. I may have had an aversion to the tool.
In conclusion, allowing autonomy allows comfort with tools and also creative solutions. We must supply the tools and information but allow teachers to come up with the creative solutions.
